Some people in the entertainment industry get their shot when they’ve made box-office success. Some are guaranteed a place because they’ve been raised to stardom. Others rose to fame because they’re primetime favorites and have become household names. Some broke into the scene and took overnight success to a whole new level. All these stars, actors and actresses, singers and musicians have set their names and have placed themselves out there for people to recognize their work.
For some, it can be unpredictable. But then you get to hear about artists that paved way to the industry in unexpected ways. Just as how it went with 24-year-old actress Devon Seron who is cast as the leading lady of two Korean heartthrobs, Hyun Woo and Jin Ju Hyeong for a new Korean film. The day news broke that the young star was part of the film ‘You With Me’, Devon was hitting the trend chart on Twitter, basically with the words PAANO MAGING SI DEVON. When national broadcast confirmed it, the news took social media by storm and fans and non-fans were contemplating about how lucky the actress is.
There is no doubt that it is Devon’s biggest break in show business. The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate has been in the industry for seven years and she may have taken a break for some time, she was consistently part of soap operas, films and local endorsements. The year 2016 must have been pretty overwhelming for the young star as she graced the covers of Village People, HardwareZone Magazine and SceneZone Magazine. She also appeared regularly on noontime show It’s Showtime as a member of GirlTrends, and was cast to play a very interesting and important role in the Regal film Pwera Usog. These accomplishments left fans wondering: when will Devon finally get her shot? Well, it seems that fans have to wait no more.
How did Devon really get the role? In an exclusive interview with 89.5 Star FM, the Cebuana actress tells us that she was not originally part of the auditionees list. The next thing she knew, out of all the talents that tried out, she was chosen to play the film’s female lead. She also reveals that all she wanted to happen was for her to get to the audition stage.
As fans are going crazy over the excitement, the actress herself still can’t believe the huge blessing that came her way. Since a lot of people are talking about it, she can’t deny the fact that she is feeling pressured of doing the project. “Sobrang mixed emotions po. Excited ako at nape-pressure at the same time.”
When asked about her two leading men, she admits that she honestly felt an awkward air when she first met them (well, who wouldn’t?). Pero nung inapproach ko naman sila, very warm po sila and sobrang bait kahit na medyo hindi kami masyadong nagkakaintindihan pero very gentleman po sila.” She also shares that both actors helped and assisted her all throughout the shoot, “—kaya sobrang happy ako na hindi ako mahihirapan sa mga kasama ko— sa mga leading men ko.”
She also admits that she may not be the biggest K-Drama fan, she definitely appreciates their work. “—kasi iba po sila. Naa-admire ko po sila, the way mag act, yung mga stories nila, yung mga ginagawa nilang film. And yung iba pong mga shows nila.”
Ever since the news came out, she has been the topic on most social media sites and it has been positively accepted by many. The former GirlTrend member says that she is overwhelmed by the reaction not only of her supporters. “To be honest, I’m really happy.
According to the film’s director Rommel Ricafort, shooting will take place in South Korea and some parts will be held in the Philippines. In preparation before they fly to the country, Devon shares that she is now undergoing acting workshops. She also talks about the makeover that they did to her.
So what can we expect from the actress on her biggest break yet? She tells us, “Bagong Devon. Fresh na Devon.” When asked about her role in the film, she reveals that it will be a first. “First time ko siyang gawin. First time kong gumanap na mayaman. She also promises to do her best and show people that she deserves the role. “Of course I will do my best naman po sa mga ginagawa kong projects most especially this film. Gusto kong makita nilang talagang naghirap po talaga ako for this film.”
She is also grateful of the support that she’s been receiving especially from her loyal fans dubbed as the Devonairs. “Maraming maraming salamat sa suporta po nila. Especially my Devonairs, na andun pa rin po for 7 years sa industriya.
While fans and K-Drama followers are anticipating this much-awaited project, we are certain that the actress will do a great job and will not disappoint. She has definitely come a long way from being the bubbly promdi who is now blossoming on to the ‘new Devon’ we’re all excited to see.
Plus, we’re thrilled to see her chemistry with these two drop-dead gorgeous Oppa’s, which makes us wonder once more, paano nga ba maging si Devon?
‘You With Me’ is set to be released on September 27 in South Korea and the Philippines and will also have special screenings in chosen Asian countries.
